Christmas Closing

RGK Wheelchairs will be closing for Christmas on Wednesday 23rd December at 5pm. Our office will re-open on Monday 4th January 2010.

Christmas Deliveries

To try to ensure a delivery in time for Christmas, all parts orders (including those on the online shop) must be placed by midday on Monday 21st December. Any orders placed after this time will not be guaranteed a Christmas Delivery.

How To Look Good Naked!

Tracy Warren, an RGK customer, has featured in an episode of Gok Wan's How To Look Good Naked, which will be screened next year.

RGK were approached by the show's makers as Gok wanted to "bling up" Tracy's current RGK wheelchair.

Tracy's chair, a titanium Maxima, was sent back to RGK where over 4000 crystals were painstakingly applied to it by hand by RGK seamstress Sue Williams. Using a digitised image of Gok's signature, RGK's Production Supervisor, Nick Dolman, used specialist software to convert it into a pattern that could be embroidered onto the chair.

A set of "Sun" glance wheels were added with the result being a seriously stylish chair!

Tracy was over the moon with both her own makeover and the makeover to her chair, and says: "To Russel and your fantastic team at RGK; Thank you for making my catwalk very memorable. I love my new chair - it is fantastic! I will be the envy of many wheelchair users".

We will, of course, keep you posted as to when the episode will be on the television.

Launch of Inline Sledge Hockey

In partnership with RGK, Hull Stingrays Elite League Ice Hockey Team and the British Inline Puck Hockey Association, the British Sledge Hockey Association (BSHA) is proud to announce the world launch of Inline Sledge Hockey at Lord Roberts Centre, Bisley Camp, Woking (Surrey) on 19th December.

Based on Ice Sledge Hockey, Inline Sledge Hockey is played to the same rules as Inline Puck Hockey (essentially ice hockey played off ice using inline skates) and has been made possible by the design and manufacture of the world's first specifically designed Inline Sledge by RGK.

Inline Sledge Hockey is being developed to allow everyone, regardless of whether they have a disability or not, to compete up to World Championship level based solely on talent and ability. This makes Inline Sledge Hockey truly inclusive.

The Inline Sledge is endorsed by the Hull Stingrays Elite League Ice Hockey Team, and is available to purchase from RGK now.

For more information about the Inline Sledge, visit www.rgklife.com or contact us direct.

For more information about the BSHA and the launch of Inline Sledge Hockey, contact Matt Lloyd on 07737 226761 or matt@sledgehockey.co.uk.

RGK and Lincolnshire Sports Partnership

RGK have teamed up with Lincolnshire Sports Partnership for a new wheelchair sports programme. Lincolnshire Sports Partnership has been commissioned by NHS Lincolnshire to deliver a programme over two years that will see 170 RGK Quattro Club sports wheelchairs with 17 box van trailers to house each set of 10 chairs for storage and transportation, ten specialist powerchairs and 3 development officers/coaches being used.

This programme will see disabled and non-disabled participants taking part in wheelchair basketball, tennis and badminton along with powerchair football across Lincolnshire. This is a reverse integration programme where everyone can take part in disability sports, and is also about educating non-physically disabled participants.

Russel Simms, Commercial Director of RGK said "We are delighted to be able to be involved with the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership. I am very confident about the impact that the supply of these chairs will have in developing awareness and participation in wheelchair sports".

"Rock For Africa" Music Event

Wheels For Africa is a project which helps disabled people in Africa, and is supported by RGK.

The status of the disadvantaged and poor in Africa usually means that they have to beg on the streets, most of the time going ignored. A suitable wheelchair opens up new possibilities and opportunities for an independent life and allows individuals to be considered as valued members of their community, rather than outcasts.

Wheels For Africa are holding a fundraising music event called "Rock For Africa" at the Wedgwood Rooms in Portsmouth. The event will take place on Tuesday 22nd December - doors open at 7:30pm, and tickets cost £10 each.

For more information, visit: www.wheelsforafrica.org.uk.

"Cast Offs" TV Series

Cast Offs is a darkly comic no-holds-barred drama series, written by some of the brains behind Skins and Shameless, telling the story of six disabled characters sent to a remote British island for a fictional reality TV show.

The programme stars RGK client, Peter Mitchell, who plays the character of Dan who has been in a wheelchair for 6 months, and is very sweet, but slightly naive.

The series has recently been shown on Channel 4 but can be watched again on 4 On Demand online.

For more information, including episode details and cast profiles, visit: www.channel4.com/programmes/cast-offs.
