There will be RGK chairs on hand so that you can take part in the activities. We will also have a small stand at the show, where you will be able to meet and speak to our advisors and take a closer look at our range of chairs.

Disabled Cadets Tread Path of Gold in Duke of Edinburgh Success

Four disabled cadets from 2160 (Sleaford squadron) have fought against the odds to complete their Gold Duke of Edinburgh award expedition in the North York Moors.

The team consisted of two wheelchair users – Cadet Greg Johnson and Cadet Corporal Carl Blackman (both 17) and Cadet Warrant Officer Marc Blackman (19) and Sergeant ATC Jason Beaumont (22), who both took the challenge on foot.

Every Duke of Edinburgh Award qualifying expedition must have an overall aim. The Sleaford team decided that their aim would focus on “Disabled and less-abled access in the North York Moors”. They videoed themselves passing through various gates and crossing rough terrain in the area, making notes of all the good and bad points along their route.

On the last day the group were met by Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Ian Stewart, who walked with the team up the final hill. Impressed by the sheer willpower of the group he said: “The motivation and perseverance shown by these cadets exemplifies the qualities needed of young people today and it is a true inspiration to us all.”

Prior to the qualifying expedition, the cadets had undertaken two practice expeditions – one across Sleaford, Lincolnshire and the second in the Peak District. Following the first practice expedition, it was clear that the two standard wheelchairs would not be sufficient enough to cross the terrain that would stand in their way.

The team decided to approach RGK to see if we could help. We were more than happy to lend the cadets two of our “Jungle Chairs” for the expedition, which are designed to cross the most challenging terrain as seen in the TV series Beyond Boundaries. The chairs offered more manoeuvrability across the rough and muddy ground that awaited them in Yorkshire.

RGK would like to congratulate the cadets on the completion of their expedition. Also special congratulations to Cadet Corporal Carl Blackman and Sergeant Jason Beaumont who both completed their Gold Award following the qualifying expedition.

Any young person aged between 14 and 24 can do a programme at one of three progressive levels, which when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Rhinos Crowned Champions!

RGK TCAT Rhinos have been crowned champions of the National RGK Super League after losing only one game all season. The Rhinos pipped MK Aces (who also lost only one game) to the crown on points difference.

The Super League team also won through to the Super League play off finals against MK Aces, a showcase tournament where the top four teams compete for the Super League Cup. Unfortunately Rhinos were beaten 49-54, giving MK Aces the Super League Cup as a consolation prize to losing out on the Super League crown.

Along with being crowned champions, the Rhinos were also in action last week in the National Championship finals in Sheffield, where the Rhinos reserves team won the overall championships after an end to end match against the Sheffield Steelers second team. The final score was 55-50 to the Rhinos.
